Get involved in public education’s biggest celebration

Schools across the state will celebrate Education Week from Monday. Here’s how you can get involved.

Every student, every voice is the focus for 2,200 NSW public schools next week (Monday August 5 - Friday August 9) as they celebrate their students and staff and the achievements of public education.

Local school celebrations

Schools across the state will showcase their student voice differently, so ask your school or check their website to get involved. And remember to share your celebration using #EdWeek19.

Watch the Education Week launch simulcast

Join the Premier, the Minister for Education and the department’s Secretary to kick-off Education Week in style. The launch will be broadcast live on Monday August 5 at 10am from St Marys North Public School and Dubbo College, Senior Campus.

Hear from our student secretaries

More than 40 NSW high school students will take over the department’s Parramatta office in the Secretary for a Day program. The students will explore student voice with communication professionals, and work with department business units to discuss 14 key projects.

Secretary Mark Scott will moderate a student audience asking some of Australia’s best tech minds the question ‘How might we humanise technology?’ as the Game Changer Challenge gets underway. Livestream the panel via YouTube on Tuesday August 6 at 9am.

And follow throughout the week as 18 teams of students put their design thinking skills to the test as they imagine, experiment, prototype and invent solutions to tricky future challenges.

The teams will pitch their ideas and battle it out to be crowned champions of the 2019 Game Changer Challenge. On Thursday August 8 watch our primary teams at 9am and our high school teams from 11am, all livestreamed on YouTube.
