Aurora College has been placed on the HSC Most Improved List for 2025, recognising the school’s ongoing dedication to student success across NSW.

A common misconception about Aurora College is that it is a selective school at all year levels. While the school is selective in Stages 4 and 5 and offers a Stage 3 Opportunity Class, it operates as a comprehensive high school for Years 11 and 12. In 2025, 71.6 per cent of Year 12 students had joined Aurora for the first time in Year 11.

Aurora College provides a valuable option for Stage 6 students from regional, rural, and remote public schools by giving them access to challenging or extension subjects that might not be available locally. This broadens their curriculum choices and creates greater opportunities after school.

The 2025 HSC results demonstrate Aurora’s success, with 72.7 per cent of course entries achieving results in the top three Bands and 41.3 per cent in the top two Bands.

Principal Chris Robertson said there were many factors contributing to this achievement.

“Ongoing professional learning focused on data-informed practice, along with explicit teaching, are just some of the ways our teachers are helping students to thrive,” he said.

“Teachers collaborate closely to plan lessons and develop resources, while maintaining a strong focus on setting and monitoring high expectations for all students. This is balanced with targeted support to help every student reach their full potential.”

Aurora College has built a culture of continuous improvement and looks forward to offering even more HSC students the chance to study a wider range of subjects in a supportive and engaging environment.
