Teachers wanting to retrain in science and mathematics can apply for a scholarship.

The STEM Scholarships for Science and Mathematics offer a great pathway into permanent employment as the recipients are guaranteed a permanent teaching job in a NSW public school on successful completion of their retraining.

Applications for the 2019 scholarship programs have been extended. The new closing date is Sunday 14 October 2018.

The Minister for Education, Rob Stokes, said in a video message: “This is your chance to help prepare students for the jobs of the future; some that we haven’t even begun to imagine.”

Successful recipients will have the flexibility to study while continuing to gain valuable experience teaching. The financial benefits include:

  • $5,000 per year of full-time study
  • $2,500 study completion grant
  • $300 general purpose allowance.

The department has designed the scholarship to ensure recipients have time for their assessments, offering up to eight days study leave each year.
