  • Professional development grants

    To help ensure ECE staff are supported in career upskilling, the department has launched the Early Childhood Professional Development Grants program.

    The grants are designed to help staff working in centre based and mobile preschools to access the latest learning opportunities.

  • Maintenance of Teacher Accreditation Policy

    From 1 January 2018 a new Maintenance of Teacher Accreditation Policy will be implemented. This will replace the current policies on maintaining accreditation for all NSW teachers and will be relevant to those early childhood teachers who are maintaining Proficient Teacher accreditation.

  • ECE experts converge in Wollongong

    Representatives from the ECED attended the University of Wollongong's Early Startconference which was themed "Helping Children Flourish and Realise Their Potential: Translating Research for Policy, Practice and Community".

    Special guest speakers included international early childhood education academics Steve Barnett and Ted Melhuish, and Andreas Schleicher, Director for Education and Skills, and special advisor on education policy to the Secretary-General at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

  • Incentive Scholarships for regional and remote NSW

    The department recently launched an Incentive Scholarships program, available to educators currently undertaking their teaching degree and working in regional and remote areas of NSW.

    Designed to contribute to the development of a higher quality workforce, the program will build on the success of the existing Rural and Remote Early Childhood Teaching Scholarship program which has seen students graduating with increased confidence and skills, and continuing to work in early childhood services around the state.

  • New Child Care Subsidy – some updates requested

    The Commonwealth Department of Education and Training is requesting updates of the administrative details for some providers and services due to the new Commonwealth Child Care Subsidy (CCS) being introduced in July 2018.

  • Applications for provider and service approvals

    As the Regulatory Authority in NSW, the department is responsible for assessing anyone who is seeking to own and/or operate an early childhood education service or services in NSW.

  • Winning voyage – Almut Weiler Anderson

    Paddington based early childhood educator, Almut Weiler Anderson was announced as a national winner in the Early Education and Care Awards in the category of Educator of the Year, after being also recognised as the State Winner in the category, and will share in training and professional development grants to the value of $50,000.
