Resources now available to support Aboriginal families and communities

Partnering with the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC), the NSW Department of Education has developed a suite of culturally specific resources aimed to provide ongoing guidance and reference for services when implementing the National Quality Framework into daily practice.

The materials have been developed as part of the Aboriginal Quality Support program. The program’s primary objective is to ensure early childhood education services providing education and care to Aboriginal children, are properly supported to provide better educational outcomes for these children.

Services can further enhance their cultural competence of Aboriginal and Indigenous communities and provide tailored support for Aboriginal children attending their service through programing.

The resources include eleven factsheets and two videos that cover the National Quality Framework in a way that is more relevant to services who provide education and care to Aboriginal children and provide support to these children’s families and community.

Together these resources provide valuable guidance for all services, educators, families and persons in management or control of an early childhood education and care service on the following:

  • The National Quality Framework - its importance and application
  • The Practice of Critical Reflection
  • Grants and Funded Programs
  • The Roles and Responsibilities within an Education and Care Service
  • The Importance of Governance

These resources are now available on the NSW Department of Education website for all service providers.
