New ELC opens on Central Coast

Families with young children are the real winners with the opening of the St John the Baptist Early Learning Centre in Woy Woy, which has created 60 new early childhood education places for children in the Gosford region.

At the opening of the centre in March, Minister for Early Childhood Education Sarah Mitchell said the service would enhance wellbeing and the quality of early childhood education in the area.

"Quality early learning is one of the best investments we can make, which is why the NSW Government invested more than $1 million through the Capital Works Grant program to make these 60 places possible," Mrs Mitchell said.

"We know the success of a child's education on their last day of school is determined by their very first day of school.

"It was encouraging to witness first-hand the engagement between children and teachers in the purpose-built facility and hear of the relief it has brought to local families," she said.

The centre was constructed with the assistance of $1 million in funding through the directorate's $5 million Capital Work Grants program.
