New approvals process

The department has strengthened the approvals process for early childhood education providers and services.  Since July 2016, applicants for service and provider approvals and those wishing to transfer existing services have been required to undergo a comprehensive application process.

The new approvals assessment process helps ensure all applicants, prior to approval, clearly understand their responsibilities under the National Law and Regulations (NQF) and the Children (Education and Care Services) Supplementary Provisions. The updated process is designed to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children.

Applicants must demonstrate the requisite level of knowledge by attending a mandatory information session and undergoing a scenario-based assessment before a provider approval is granted, or before they can operate a service.

Applicants may also be asked to attend an interview with the department, and to provide evidence of recent child protection training from a department-approved provider.
