Child Safe: a new online tool

Child Safe: a new online tool

The NSW Office of the Children's Guardian (OCG) has launched Child Safe, a free online learning tool to help staff and volunteers working in child-related organisations to build their capacity to be child-safe.

The Child Safe eLearning resource is for staff and organisations who want to learn more about establishing and maintaining child-safe organisations.

It is designed to complement, rather than replace, the current SAFE mandatory child protection training for early childhood educators.

Child Safe is comprised of eight key modules that address real issues that early childhood staff may face. The modules cover how to identify and respond to potential risks, identifying grooming practices, and how to create a culture in which children are valued and listened to.

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse has highlighted Child Safe training as having a very important role in keeping children in institutions safe from abuse and neglect. The Child Safe eLearning forms part of the OCG's Child Safe Strategy for NSW and complements the organisation's draft Child Safe principles.
