Start Strong Pathways open

Start Strong Pathways has been developed to help support the early learning needs of young children by offering families a pathway into early childhood education.

Minister for Early Childhood Education Sarah Mitchell recently announced the $2 million program, which is available to not-for-profit community based services, including local council.

Priority will be given to services engaging with vulnerable community groups with limited access to early childhood education, including children with disability, Aboriginal children, those from low income families, children from CALD backgrounds, those at risk of harm or who are socially isolated.

Applications from services transitioning from Start Strong Pathways from Long Day Care, Occasional Care, Vacation Care or Early Childhood Projects funding programs as part of the Early Childhood Education Grants program will also be prioritised.

Guidelines for submitting applications to the program are now available on the department’s website. Applications will be accepted online through the SmartyGrants portal until 31 January 2018.

Applications are invited from services meeting specific criteria.

They must:

  • be a not-for-profit community based service
  • engage a certificate III or diploma qualified early childhood educator, early childhood education teacher, or person with other relevant tertiary qualifications
  • have established links with early childhood education providers
  • comply with the Terms and Conditions of the Early Childhood Education Grants Program.

The Start Strong Pathways program will assist with providing educational supports for very young children, strengthen the engagement of children within these services, and help promote the importance of early childhood education to parents.
