ACECQA’s new educational leader resource now available

Recognising the important role of educational leaders in early childhood, and in response to sector feedback, ACECQA has developed and launched The Educational Leader Resource.

This toolkit includes practical advice, research and reflections to guide and support educational leaders and approved providers on best practice in this leadership role.

The resource was created to support experienced, new or future leaders in training, and was developed with input from educational leaders from all service types, as well as academics and other sector leaders.

ACECQA said in their media announcement, that the Educational Leader Resource:

  • helps to clarify what is expected of the role, from both the educational leader and provider perspective
  • demonstrates how the role supports quality outcomes for children and families
  • promotes professional development and reflection.

“Using a highly practical approach, the Resource includes case studies, links to helpful resources, reflective questions, models to ‘unpack’ guidance as well as sample templates,” the ACECQA statement said.

ACECQA noted that an overarching goal of The Educational Leader Resource is to assist approved providers in selecting and supporting educational leaders (NQS Element 7.2.2). It is also intended to support educational leaders to confidently and creatively adapt the role they play according to the unique context of their service.

The user-friendly resource is now available to download from the ACECQA website, with print copies available for purchase soon. There are also a range of other resources to support the role of educational leader that can be found in the Resources & Research area of the ACECQA website.

What is an Educational Leader?

The educational leader in children’s education and care services plays a central role in supporting a culture of continuous improvement, guiding educators’ understanding of educational program and practice and enhancing learning, development and wellbeing outcomes for children.

The educational leader has an influential role in inspiring, motivating, affirming and challenging or extending the practice and pedagogy of educators. Leaders take a collaborative, consultative approach involving inquiry and reflection, which can significantly impact on the important work other educators do with both children and families.

The role of the educational leader is integral to Quality Area 1 and Quality Area 7 of the National Quality Standard, and is the particular focus of Standard 7.2 Standard – Governance and leadership.
