Engaging the sector: 2019 October Roadshow

The Department engaged collaboratively with over 900 people from the early childhood education sector during October, for the second round of roadshows in 2019.

24 January 2020

The following comments provided by the sector reflect the close relationship the Department has with its stakeholders.

"I truly appreciate that we are consulted in matters that are important and relevant to us. I noticed that feedback from the June road show have been taken on board and was reflected in this roadshow."

"It was really nice to meet and network with other educators, services and Department staff."

"This was one of the best sessions held since they first started. Very useful and realistic information shared."

"Having the one-on-one information about our centre and funding options was very useful."

Over a two-week period and across 12 separate events, sector attendees heard updates on regulatory matters and program information, including:

  • Drought support funding
  • Aboriginal early childhood education scholarships
  • Disability and inclusion program
  • Mobile preschool funding
  • Grant funding compliance
  • Out of School Hours Care (OSHC)
  • AUSkey update

Feedback from attendees indicated that the opportunity to meet face-to-face with the department leadership team was the most valued aspect of the October roadshows. Educators attending the events commented that they valued the opportunity to access current resources and information that informs their work in the early childhood education sector.

The Department also introduced the new self-assessment approach for services which will support continuous quality improvement. Strategies for implementation were delivered by the Australian Children's Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). More information about the self-assessment tool will be available shortly.
