Celebrating Children's Week at Rockdale
To celebrate Children’s Week 2018, the department participated in a children’s expo at Rockdale Town Hall for children aged 0-5, organised by NSW Health.
The children’s expo was publicised through local health networks and drew large numbers of parents, carers and children of different ages and backgrounds. Local services and providers held stalls with different activities for children to enjoy including face painting, story time, art and craft, balloon twisting and music and dancing.
The expo was organised to provide information to local parents and families about local services available in the area such as long day care centres, community preschools, playgroups, parenting support and health services.
Members of the department attended the event and hosted a booth at the expo. The ECE team was able to engage with parents, initiating conversation to increase awareness around the importance of 600 hours of early childhood education.
Overall, the children’s expo was a big hit with families, and was designed as a community contact point to gather information, playing an important role in supporting local parents to make informed decisions about their children’s future education and wellbeing.
