Launch of Regional and Remote Strategy

27% of four and five year old children in ECE are enrolled in a regional, remote or very remote setting (ABS Preschool Education Australia 2016).

Following extensive consultations with the sector, and to ensure all children in NSW have access to sustainable, high quality education, the NSW Department of Education has launched the Regional and Remote Early Childhood Education Strategy (PDF 4051.75KB).

The Strategy will guide policy development on how best to support the needs of regional and remote early childhood services, families, children and communities. This important goal and will be informed by national quality standards and participation targets on universal access. The Strategy will also help shape the development of services and support for ECE in regional and remote NSW.

Community and sector consultations were crucial to developing a strategy which meets the needs of regional and remote ECE services across NSW.

During the year we held consultations and sought feedback online from peak bodies, government agencies and ECE services in non-metro areas of the state to ensure the strategy reflected the most relevant issues for these communities.

Information on upcoming programs in line with the strategy will be shared as they are developed further.
