National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

If a child is aged birth to six years and has a disability, or there are concerns with their development, they may be eligible to receive supports from the NDIS.

The NDIS has been developed to provide support for Australians with disability in accordance with an approved NDIS plan. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) assesses a child’s eligibility for funding supports and works with their family to develop support plans based on their aspirations and goals for their child.

Families of young children with dsability won’t be working directly with the NDIA, but will be supported by a NSW Early Childhood Intervention partner. These support providers can be accessed through an early childhood education service or selected from the list of NDIA partners on the NDIS website.

The NSW Government has developed a website specific to support the information needs of people in NSW.

For further information check the Early Childhood Early Intervention guide.
