Policy and procedure guidance for ECE services and providers

The NSW Department of Education regularly updates policies, procedures and guidelines to help early childhood education and care services and educators to ensure the safety, health and wellbeing of children.

Policies and procedures in services should be read, understood and implemented by all staff employed by a service to ensure that you are meeting all legislative requirements. They can also help to inform families about how the service operates and expectations that families can have to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of their children.

These resources are intended as a template to inform best practice in early childhood education and care settings. They include easy-to-follow steps and wording to support services to meet legislative requirements. These resources are presented as guidelines and are not an exact format that must be followed. They have been designed as a starting point to help you develop policies and procedures relevant to your individual service acknowledging your own context, service users, service type and operating model.

National policy and procedure guidelines

ACECQA have developed a set of guidelines to step services through the information to be considered when preparing each of the policies and procedures required under regulations 168 and 169 of the National Regulations.

As the guidelines are for use Australia-wide, approved providers will also need to consider any relevant NSW requirements.
