NSW Early Learning Commission completes record number of visits to put child safety first
Recent child safety reforms are delivering stronger protections for children in early learning services across NSW, with rigorous compliance activity and enhanced monitoring supporting providers to meet the highest standards.
24 August 2026
The NSW Early Learning Commission’s latest quarterly data (1 April to 30 June 2026) shows a significant increase in statutory actions, with 876 taken against approved providers, services and educator – a rise of 108 per cent compared to the same period in 2025.
Notable recent penalties include:
- On 22 June 2026, Guardian Community Early Learning Centres Pty Ltd (provider of Guardian Childcare & Education Elderslie) was fined $41,220 for failing to notify the Commission of complaints alleging breaches of National Law, and an additional $3,960 for failing to advise parents about an alleged incident involving their child.
- In May 2026, Affinity Education Group Pty Ltd (provider of Little Beginnings at Kolodong) was fined $61,830 for failing to notify the Commission of serious incidents and $5,940 for failing to advise parents about an alleged incident involving their child.
These actions accompany a record volume of regulatory activity, with more than 10,061 visits completed across the state this financial year, 2,787 of which occurred in the last quarter.
The new data follows the introduction of new child safety reforms in NSW, which equip the Commission with stronger regulatory powers and tools to respond swiftly to risks and concerns within the early learning sector.
Regulatory action complements ongoing work with providers and services to promote high-quality education and care and reinforce safe practices across every early learning setting, every day.
The full quarter four 2026 aggregated regulatory data and enforcement action data and compliance and enforcement actions are available on the Commission’s website.
Please attribute to NSW Early Learning Commissioner Daryl Currie:
“We’re proud to have carried out a record number of regulatory visits this year across NSW, demonstrating our commitment to being present, visible and responsive in every community.”
“While most providers deliver safe, high-quality care, we remain vigilant and act decisively to protect children’s best interests and maintain trust in the sector.”
