The sector development program supports the early childhood education workforce by offering free training, support and resources to build the capacity of services in line with NSW priorities.
Program benefits
The program helps services support staff development. It provides:
- new reference and training materials
- guidance on the 600-hour business operating model
- information on developing inclusive practices that support the diverse needs of children.
We’re currently offering the following training for staff from approved eligible services:
Governance and Compliance
This professional development initiative will assist early childhood education and care services to comply with regulation through the development of sound governance and reporting procedures.
Available to
This course is available to all early childhood education and care services in New South Wales.

Responding to Trauma
This course will deliver professional development training in the area of best-practice responses to trauma. Topics will involve:
- recognising and responding to signs of trauma in children
- strategies and resources to support cognitive, social and emotional skills for children who have experienced trauma
- best-practice approaches on how children, families and the community can recover from trauma.

This course is available to all early childhood education and care services in New South Wales.

Early Childhood Inclusive Education
The training will provide guidance on the delivery of educational programs that focus on continuous improvement for children with disability and additional learning needs.
Webinar topics will include:
- best practice examples of inclusive early childhood education
- recording observations that demonstrate frequency, intensity and duration of educational supports required
- planning for and implementing research-based individual Learning Plans for young children with disabilities/delays, in collaboration with their families and other professionals.

This course is available to all early childhood educators working in preschools, family day care and long day care services.

Multicultural Support Program
This professional development initiative will assist early childhood education services to support the inclusion of children from Cultural and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds in preschool and to build the cultural competency of educators in these services.
The program is designed to assist services by raising awareness of cultural practices, ensuring better communication between children, families, educators and early childhood services and supporting children in their transition to school.
Community Preschool and Mobile Preschool services can access up to 20 hours of support.
