Mandatory vaccinations

Health Care workers

The NSW Public Health Order requires Health Care workers to have received the first dose of a vaccine by 30 September 2021, with a second dose required by 30 November 2021.

The Order applies to:

  • in the public sector, persons who work for:
    • NSW Health Service,
    • A public health organisation
    • The Health Administration Corporation
    • Ambulance Service of NSW,
    • Staff of the Ministry of Health
  • in the private sector, a person who works:
  • in a private health facility, a private hospital or day procedure centre,
  • registered paramedics involved in transporting, or assessing whether to transport, persons to and from a public or private health facility.

Early Childhood/Disability

Effective 9 September 2021, if you are a care worker who lives or works at a place of work in in a local government area of concern then you must not enter or remain in your place of work unless you have:

  • had at least 1 dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, or
  • an appointment booked to be vaccinated on or before 19 September 2021 and have evidence of the appointment, or
  • been issued with a medical contraindication certificate.

From 20 September 2021 you will only be able to enter or remain in your place of work if you have:  

  • had at least 1 dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, or  
  • been issued with a medical contraindication certificate. 

This vaccination requirement applies to the following care workers:

  • those who generally work in an early education and care facility except for those who provide prescribed services detailed at 4.24 of the Public Health Delta Order.

or

  • provides disability support services in person to a person with a disability, including services funded or provided under:
    • the National Disability Insurance Scheme of the Commonwealth, or
    • the Assisted School Travel Program of the Department of Education.

Aged Care

The Federal Government has announced all Aged Care workers (excluding students on work placement/ancillary workers) must be vaccinated.

Anyone currently working in this sector must have:

  • had at least 1 dose of a COVID-10 vaccine, or
  • has been issued with a medical contraindication certificate.

Students on work placement, trainers and assessors and health practitioners who attend the site casually must have received their first dose by 31 October 2021.

Education

From 18 October all NSW school and preschool staff on-site to support the staged return of student cohorts under Level 3 plus will be required to have received 2 doses of COVID-19 vaccination.

Vaccinations for all teachers and school staff across all sectors (public and non-government) will be mandatory from 8 November.
Sectors include;

  • Government School’s
  • Non-government schools including Independent and Catholic Schools
  • Preschool’s
  • Early Childhood Education Centre’s
  • Out of School Care
