To download the NSW Education Parent App, tap the ‘Play Store’ icon, then in the search bar type in ‘NSW Education Parent App’.

Tap ‘Install’ then from here you can tap ‘Open’ to launch the app or you can find the app within your installed apps.

To launch the app tap the icon. As this is the first time you're using the app, you'll be prompted to grant access to the calendar. We suggest you tap ‘Allow’.

You're then presented with a series of screens known as onboarding. These screens just educate you as to the sort of functions you have.

Just swipe across to see the functions. When presented with the 'Stay notified' screen, we recommend tapping ‘Okay’. This will ensure that you get access to valuable push notifications.

When presented with 'Connect Service NSW account', you have the ability to connect your Service NSW account should you have one.

In this example, we're just going to press ‘Skip’ as we'll connect our account later on through ‘Settings’.

When you get to the 'Let's set up your school' screen, you have the ability to enter the school that you want to follow and get information from. So in this example, we're going to type in 'The Rivers Kadina campus'.

We've successfully added the school. We have the ability to add another school or we can just click ‘Okay’.

We're just going to click ‘Okay’ in this example. Then you are presented with your landing screen.

The landing screen is always the ‘News’ screen. To read a news article tap the summary. You're then presented with that same article in detail.

You also have the ability to see that article via the School Website Service by tapping the 'Global' icon. It will then launch your browser and display that same article.

To come back to the app just switch to the app. Here you also have the ability to share that same article using the share function.

Tap the 'Share' icon on the top right to then be presented with a couple of different share options. To get back to the 'News' landing screen tap ‘X’.

If this is the first time you've ever looked at the news screen or you've not set up the school filtering, tap ‘Let's do it'. Then you'll be presented with the schools that you are following. Tap the school and then you're further presented with additional filtering options by year.

For now I'm going to leave this as default. Tap ‘X’ to get back to the 'News' screen. You also have the ability to get back to that filtering screen by tapping the three horizontal lines that resemble a triangle.

You have the ability to do additional filtering by tapping three vertical dots on the far right also known as the kebab menu. Tapping that allows you to then filter information from the Department of Education and the schools you are following.

To access the calendar tap the burger menu on the top left then tap ‘Calendar’. The current date is highlighted and you'll also be displayed dates with events. To see an event, tap a date with an event on it and then you'll be displayed a summary.

To get a more detailed view, tap the summary. From this detailed view you'll have the ability to share using the native share function of the app. You will also be able to access some map information by looking at the map icon or, more importantly, be able to add the event to your calendar.

Tap ‘Add to your calendar’ to add that event to your calendar. If you go to your calendar, you'll actually see the event already added in there. At the same time you also have the ability to remove that item from the calendar should you wish.

To get back to the calendar screen tap the ‘X’ icon.

To access the newsletters, tap the burger menu on the top left then tap ‘Newsletters’. You'll see a list of newsletters for the schools that you follow.

Tap a newsletter and then, depending on your school settings, it might display automatically or download on the phone it has just downloaded.

To view the actual newsletter I tap the newsletter again and it is then displayed.

To get back to the app, switch back to the app itself and then you're presented with the newsletter screen.

To access 'My schools ', tap the burger icon on the top left, then 'My schools', then the school you want to get details on.

This is the school landing screen. Here you'll see the operational status, the services the school provides, and the apps that this school is promoting.

If you have additional schools that you are following, tap the vertical dots on the top right also known as the kebab icon. Here you'll be able to switch to a different school.

Please be aware that the options from school to school will differ depending on what has been set up by that school.

Now let's look at some of the options in detail:

  • Make a payment allows you to perform in-app payments for that school.

  • School details will allow you to then get respective information about the contact and location information for that school.

  • Essential apps are the apps that are being recommended by the Department of Education or the ones the schools are actively using. Here we've got Everyday Maths.

To get back to the app, switch to the app itself and you'll be presented back to the landing screen of that school.

To access the settings screen tap the burger menu on the left and then tap ‘Settings’. Here you'll be able to control the app and user preferences.

You can sign in or sign out of your Service NSW account. Under School settings you'll see the respective settings for each school then here you'll be able to manage its push notifications.

We recommend leaving them on at a later date should you ever need to. You can also remove that school.

Here you can also add a new school. So we're going to add a new school. Tap 'Add a new school' and just type in 'Hoxton Park Public School'.

When we tap 'Continue' it then connects to that school and all the additional news, newsletters and calendar events would be downloaded.

That school is now appearing underneath the same 'Settings' screen so you can also manage its preferences as well further down we'll see personalisation.

Under personalisation you can manage your school feeds which we have discussed in the previous video which was all-round news.

To sign in with your Service NSW account tap the burger menu. You can tap the 'Sign in with Service NSW' directly from the menu item, or if you wish, you can also tap the 'Settings' screen.

In this example we'll type 'Settings' here you will see that you are not connected because this button says 'Connect account now'. By tapping the button, it then launches the Service NSW screen. In order for you to log in, type in the username for your Service NSW account and then the password for that account, and then press ‘Continue’.

It'll then begin the logging-in exercise. Once logged in, the username is brought back and you'll see that you're signed in because you'll have a sign-up button below. You can also sign out should you want to. Just tap the 'Sign out' button. You are now signed out of the Service NSW login associated with the parent app.
