People
Students will have qualified teachers.
- FASTstream – teachers receive one-to-one coaching and mentoring from current school leaders, whilst completing placements tailored to individual development needs.
- Mid-Career Pilot Program – support for mid-career and high achieving professionals to enter the teaching profession in specific teaching areas, including science, mathematics, technology and applied studies.
- Teach and Learn scholarships – scholarships to allow approved teachers the opportunity to retrain as a teacher in a high-demand subject area in rural and remote locations.
- Teach.Rural scholarships – Supporting HSC students and university students looking to teach in rural and remote NSW public schools.
Students are empowered to fulfil their potential and ambition irrespective of their location.

Career support
- Aboriginal Career Immersion Program – program to improve educational attainment of Aboriginal students.
- myfuture website – an excellent tool for career and transition planning, occupation information, employment prospects, career stories and articles.
- Rural and Remote K-12 Career Education Initiative – enhancing career education in rural and remote schools, and strengthening student transitions between primary and secondary schools.
Creative arts
- Aboriginal Dance Company and student workshops – contemporary Indigenous dance workshops for primary and secondary students. The Company is an elite performance ensemble.
- Annex Art Mural in a Day program: professional contemporary street artists guide students in creating a school mural.
- NSW State Seasonal Ensembles – students develop skills and understanding in their specific art form with the support of professional industry tutors.
- Home – a partnership program that connects primary schools to local Aboriginal artists, community, language and culture. It culminates in an exhibition at a regional art gallery.
- Local ensembles – including Western NSW Dance Ensemble, Hunter Singers, Hunter Wind Ensemble, New England, Western NSW and Riverina Dance Ensembles and Symphonia Jubilate Outback.
- Speaking competitions – state wide debating and public speaking competitions. Student workshops and professional learning resources are also available.
- State and local camps and workshops – including state music and drama camps, Western Rock Camp, Riverina Music Camp, Riverina Drama Camp, Bandlink Narrabri, South Coast small schools camp, and the West of the Divide camps and tour.
- Surround Sound – a band competition for students from secondary schools in rural and remote areas who perform any style of contemporary music.
- A variety of workshops in dance, drama, music and visual arts in rural North and rural South and West areas for Stage 6 students.
Sport
- Opportunities for students with disability – a range of physical activity and modified sport opportunities for students with disability in rural and remote areas.
- Representative sport pathway – providing increased opportunities for rural and remote students to progress from school to district/zone, association/region, state level and national and international competitions.
Support for senior students
- Aurora College: HSC study days – online workshops where students can connect and revise with others from across the state. Subject experts and HSC markers also present exam advice and up to date information on course content.
- Distance Education: single course enrolment – support for students in Years 9 to 12 when the home school cannot provide the required breadth and flexibility of curriculum.
Student wellbeing and learning needs in rural and remote schools are met through increased access to appropriate support.


Participation
Students have access to wellbeing support as needed.
- Batyr@school – a program sharing lived experiences of mental illness to support resilience.
- Operation Art – students demonstrate their visual arts achievements through exhibitions at the Armory Gallery, Sydney Olympic Park and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
- Pirru Thangkuray – a cultural engagement and goal setting program designed to increase the number of Aboriginal students completing their HSC, while maintaining their cultural identity.
- Seasons for Growth – a program to understand and manage change, loss and grief.
- StormBirds – a program to support students adapt and recover from natural disasters.
- Student Voices in the Arts Council – an opportunity for students across the state to advocate for the arts and bring a student perspective to The Arts Unit.
- Youth Aware of Mental Health – a program developing help-seeking skills focused on self and peer support.
Students are confident and aware of their post-school options and have access to their choice of pathway from school.


Partnerships
Students have greater awareness of and access to post-school options.
- Aurora College: Rural Youth Ambassador Program – an initiative that allows young people in rural communities to develop their leadership skills and provide a voice on rural and remote education.
- NSW Virtual STEM Academy – provides students in Years 5 to 10 with online access to STEM enrichment and extension programs.
- Regional Transitions to University Grant – a partnership with universities to help students, their families and teachers navigate the transition to university and the gap year.
- STEM Industry Partnerships – providing real-world STEM educational opportunities for students and assisting with contextualised STEM curriculum and activities.
Students have an improved awareness of their career options and choices beyond school which is not limited by their location.
