Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation

The Centre for Education Statistics and Evaluation (CESE) was created in 2012 to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and accountability of education in New South Wales.

CESE is focused on supporting decision-making in education delivery and development with strong evidence. As part of this role, CESE creates a range of research and evaluation publications.

CESE's three main responsibilities are to:

  • provide data analysis, information and evaluation that improve effectiveness, efficiency and accountability of education programs and strategies
  • collect essential education data and provide a one-stop shop for information needs – a single access point to education data that has appropriate safeguards to protect data confidentiality and integrity
  • build capacity across the whole education sector so that everyone can make better use of data and evidence.

Since CESE's formation, we have worked on a range of initiatives. Tell Them From Me is an online survey that helps schools capture the views of students, teachers and parents. Effective Practices in Teaching & Learning supports educators in their pursuit of excellence through access to educational research, and the NSW Education Datahub provides free public access to education data. Resources for evaluation can be found on the Evaluation Resource Hub or the Evaluation Repository. You can also find your local school by using the School Finder.
