Manage your security settings and secret questions and answers

This guide shows NSW Department of Education (DoE) staff how to set up their security settings and secret questions and answers. These can be used in future to authenticate your identity if you need to reset your DoE password.

We recommend you keep both your secret questions and security settings up to date. A good time to check them is just before you reset your password each time.

Manage your security settings

  1. Log in to the DoE Staff Portal using your User ID and password.
  2. Access your user account settings by selecting the person icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

3. Select Manage security settings. A 6-digit security code will be sent to your personal email address and mobile.

4. Enter the 6-digit security code.

The security code will only be valid for a 10-minute period. If you don’t receive your code or exceed the 10-minute period, there is a link on the screen to Resend Code.

Note: If you do not have existing security settings or can’t receive the code via SMS or personal email, please contact EDConnect on 1300 32 32 32, option 5.

5. Once you have entered the security code you can review and manage your security settings.

Note: Allow up to 30-minutes for your changes to update. To ensure your settings have been refreshed, log off from the portal after the 30-minute period, and then log in again.

Manage your secret questions and answers

  1. Log in to the DoE Staff Portal using your User ID and password.
  2. Access your user account settings by selecting the person icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
  3. Select Update secret question.

4. Select 3 different questions from the drop-down menu in each question field.

Note: Each answer must be at least 4 digits long, which may prevent you from using some of the questions.

5. Enter the answers to your nominated questions in each Answer field, and again in each Verify field, to confirm your answer.

6. Enter your current password at the bottom of the page and click Save questions.

7. Select the OK button from the Success window.
