What is the main destination of Year 12 students?

Summary

This document presents results from the 2014 survey of 3,581 students who completed Year 12 in 2013. It focuses on the main post-school destination of this group and makes comparisons to earlier surveys undertaken with Year 12 completers in NSW.

Main post-school destination is based on self- reported participation in further education and current employment status. The classification system prioritises education related post-school destinations over participation in employment.

Key Results

  • Entering a Bachelor degree is the main post-school destination among Year 12 completers in NSW.
  • Since 2010, the proportion of Year 12 completers entering a Bachelor degree has increased. This trend has coincided with a decrease in the proportion of those entering VET courses.
  • There has been a slight increase in the proportion of Year 12 completers who had not entered the labour force or further education and training at the time of the survey when compared to 2010 results.
