Staff compliance - School-based staff
While everyone is responsible for making sure they have completed the relevant mandatory training for their role, supervisors also have a responsibility to regularly monitor the compliance rates of their staff.
To support this, supervisors have access to the Staff Compliance report in Scout. This report is updated daily based on data from MyPL and allows you to see data for all current staff at your school.
To work at the NSW Department of Education, all employees and contractors must complete mandatory training. Completion of mandatory training doesn’t just ensure our staff are compliant with legislative, departmental and school requirements. It also helps to ensure the safety of our students, promotes a safe and healthy workplace and mitigates organisational risks.
Mandatory training must be completed at induction, and on an ongoing basis throughout the duration of employment with the department. The number of training modules you need to complete depends on your role and where you work. While some mandatory training requires completion only once, other training must be periodically refreshed.

There are two types of mandatory training courses for schools:
- Mandatory for all school-based staff
- Mandatory only for specific roles
Courses that have not been completed or that need to be renewed are highlighted in red and marked as ‘Not Certified’ within the report.
Fields containing numbers indicate the number of days until the course must be renewed. Courses that have less than 30 days remaining are highlighted in yellow.
The Employee Printable view allows you to print a compliance report for a selected staff member or save it as a PDF to attach to an email.
Staff can also access the Staff Compliance report explanation page linked at the top of the report. It provides more information about the report, including definitions of the data fields, as well as how to use the report.
If you notice any data discrepancies within the report, contact the MyPL team via their help desk or by emailing mypl@det.nsw.edu.au.
For any mandatory training enquiries, please contact the Learning Unit at mandatorytraning@det.nsw.edu.au.
