AsP Enrolments

The AsP Enrolments report provides information on student historical and projected enrolments across schools in NSW, grouped by schools community group.

This report is available only to Asset Planners in the Planning and Demography unit.

How will this report benefit me?

Users can view historical enrolments, including trends such as increasing or decreasing enrolments.  Because all schools from the same schools community group appear on the same chart, users can determine which schools are growing faster than others within the group, which may inform decisions about where to open new schools.

Users can also view enrolment projections from AMS for the next 15 years on the same chart. These inform decisions about expected future growth for a school or schools community group.

Non-government school historical enrolments can be compared side-by-side with government enrolments.  Increasing or decreasing non-government enrolments have a direct impact on the number of places that need to be made available for students in government schools.

What does the AsP Enrolment report provide?

The following visualisations are available in this report:

Schools Community Group Government School Enrolments

  • This line chart displays historical and projected enrolments by year for the schools community group as a whole.
  • You cannot drill down to the school level in this chart.
  • 10 years of historical data will eventually be included, however the earliest year displayed is 2011.  This is due to unavailability of high-quality data prior to this year.
  • Schools community group projections from AMS are included for the next 15 years. Note that the axis scale changes between the historical and projected enrolments.
  • The schools community group projections are included – 5, 10 and 15 year likely projections.
  • Only government school enrolments and projections are in this chart.

School Historical and Projected Enrolments

  • This line chart displays historical and projected enrolments by school.
  • Historical enrolments are shown by year for individual schools in the schools community group, AND non-government schools based within the schools community group boundary.
  • 10 years of historical data will eventually be included, however the earliest year displayed is 2011.  This is due to unavailability of high-quality data prior to this year.
  • Government school projected enrolments from AMS are included for the next 15 years. Note that the axis scale changes between the historical and projected enrolments.
  • Historical enrolments for non-government schools located within the schools community group boundary are included and can be filtered out.
  • The projections for government schools are included – 5, 10 and 15 year likely projections.
  • Projections are for government schools only.  If you select a non-government school, there will be no data for projected enrolments.

Use the following slicers to select a schools community group and school, and analyse the data:

Schools Community Group

Use this slicer to select a schools community group to analyse. You can scroll to find the schools community group you need, or use the search bar at the top of the slicer.

Notes:

  • To improve report loading times, this slicer will default to the first schools community group in the list.
  • You can only select one schools community group at a time in this report.
  • This slicer controls both charts. The schools community group and schools displayed in the charts will change based on the schools community group selected.
  • This slicer controls the School Name slicer. The schools available in the School Name slicer will be government schools in the schools community group, and non-government schools based within the schools community group boundary.

Sector Name

Use this slicer to select the sector, e.g. Government, Systemic (Catholic) or Non-Systemic (Independent).

Notes:

  • To improve report loading times, this slicer will default to Government.
  • This slicer controls the School Historical and Projected Enrolments chart only. Only schools in the selected sector will be shown.
  • This slicer controls the School Name slicer. Schools in the School Name slicer will be filtered to the sector selected in the Sector Name slicer.

School Name

Once a schools community group is selected, all schools in the schools community group and sector will appear in this slicer.  Use this slicer to select or deselect schools to appear in the chart. This will allow for comparisons of a few schools in schools community group that have a large number of schools.

Recommended Steps

  1. Select a schools community group in the Schools Community Group slicer.
  2. Select Sector “Government” in the Sector Name slicer.
  3. View historical and projected enrolments for the schools community group and its schools.
  4. Clear the Sector Name slicer.
  5. Compare historical enrolments within the schools community group boundary for government and non-government schools.
  6. Select 2-3 adjacent schools in the School Name slicer, for example a government school and a neighbouring non-government school.
  7. Analyse historical and projected enrolments for the selected schools.

What should I look for?

  • Schools community groups or schools with a significant increase or decline in enrolments over the years, or significant projected increases or decreases.
  • Note that the scale changes when moving from historical to projected enrolments, from 1 to 5 year intervals.
  • Historical enrolments (including non-government schools) come from the annual enrolment census.
  • Enrolment projections come from AMS.

Where does this data come from?

  • Historical enrolments (including non-government schools) come from the annual enrolment census.
  • Enrolment projections come from AMS.

How frequently is data updated?

  • Historical enrolments are updated annually after the Enrolment census is completed in August.
  • Projected enrolments are loaded daily from AMS, and updated annually in the source system.
