White Cliffs Public School is looking for a positive, motivated teacher to join our team. The placement will be tailored dependent on the skillset and interests of the applicant. This position could involve the applicant having their own class, implementation of intervention programs, extra-curricular programs or RFF.

Desired candidate expertise:

  • Approval to teach K-6
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills with the capacity to work collaboratively as a member of the school team and build positive relationships with all members of the school community.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and delivering evidence-based literacy and numeracy programs that meet the individual needs of students.
  • Commitment to student wellbeing, including implementation of evidence-based social-emotional programs and/or strategies

Accommodation details

A semi-furnished, free standing two-bedroom unit overlooking the local bushland is currently available for lease though Teacher Housing that would suit an individual or couple. Furnishings include 2x queen sized beds, lounge, dining suite and white goods. The unit is a short 4-minute walk from White Cliffs Public school and a 3-minute walk to the local pub and general store. The unit has a large, fenced yard suitable for a small to medium sized dog/s.

There are limited private rental options available in White Cliffs.

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

School details

White Cliffs Public School is a TP1 school located in the small, isolated town of White Cliffs, which is approximately 290kms North East of Broken Hill in Far Western NSW. Our current enrolment is currently 25 students from year 1 to 6 from the local town and surrounding properties. Students are catered for across two multistage classrooms, which are currently structured as a lower primary and upper primary class.

Our school is currently staffed by a Teaching Principal, AP Curriculum and Instruction, one part-time teacher, a full-time SLSO and a full-time SAM. The school team is a positive, collaborative and highly supportive group that is focused on the implementation of research-based literacy and numeracy practices that cater for the needs of our students to develop the skills required to become confident, lifelong learners. Staff regularly seek opportunities for students to experience life beyond White Cliffs, including opportunities to link in with Tibooburra Outback Public School, Wilcannia Central School, and Broken Hill School of the Air for extra-curricular activities and excursions.

The local community is supportive and welcoming of newcomers, and have regular community events including the annual Gymkhana, art festivals, and rodeos, as well as smaller events including African Drumming, live music at the local pub, and artist workshops. Although remote, there are opportunities for weekend exploration including visits to Broken Hill, Wilcannia, Tibooburra, Mutawintji National Park, or participate in an Opal Mine Tour or station stay.

For medical needs, the Royal Flying Doctor makes regular visits for GP, dentistry and mental health services. Services can also be accessed in Broken Hill or Mildura, VIC, or alternatively Adelaide, SA which is a short flight from Broken Hill. Pets are catered for as well with the Flying Vet making regular runs to White Cliffs.
