  • Permanent employees who hold a substantive position as a teacher and meet the eligibility requirements in the Rural Experience Guidelines may apply for either of these placements.
  • Non-permanent employees (those on a temporary engagement / contract and casual employees) who meet the eligibility requirements in the Rural Experience Guidelines may apply for either of these placements.

Literacy & Numeracy Teacher

Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2023 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application).

Role description: The successful applicant will:

  • Support the development of students’ literacy and numeracy skills across Years 7-12.
  • Liaise with classroom teachers, SLSOs and the Learning and Support Team to design effective support processes and programs aimed at improving students’ literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Deliver small group tuition to support the literacy and numeracy needs of identified students.
  • Identify and support individual students who require additional learning support in collaboration with classroom teachers.
  • Facilitate student access to literacy and numeracy online programs and assessments to support and measure student progress including assisting HSC Minimum Standards students to meet the required literacy and numeracy standards
  • Source network expertise if required for additional learning and support strategies and resources.

Additional commitments: Attending Learning and Support Team meetings.

Desired candidate expertise:

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and support the diverse literacy and numeracy needs of students
  • Proven ability to innovate and lead strategies and programs to support improvement in student literacy and numeracy outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively analyse achievement data and use it to apply interventions including for extension.
  • This placement is open to teachers K-12.

Leeton is located in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area approximately 60km from the multicultural city of Griffith and 130km north-west of Wagga Wagga.

The school provides many different opportunities for students and teachers to engage in activities aligned to their strengths and interests including an extensive Creative and Performing Arts program, a variety of sports and coaching opportunities, an emerging STEM focus, unique learning pathways such as our Hands on Learning program and a strengthened approach to delivering meaningful and strategic cohort and whole school wellbeing initiatives. Leeton High School continues to explore ways and opportunities to support students’ literacy and numeracy skills in keeping with system and school priorities.

Role description: The successful applicant will:

  • Collaborate with our  Music teacher to deliver the Music curriculum to students from Years 7-10.
  • Initiate and manage opportunities for students to showcase their musical talents through organised school events and performances
  • Support Creative and Performing Arts initiatives
  • Teach in another faculty if required.

Additional commitments: Leeton High School has outstanding Creative and Performing Arts programs and initiatives. The school offers many opportunities for students to showcase their talents through informal performance platforms and a bi-annual school musical which draws great interest from our town and surrounds. The successful applicant would be required to be involved in these initiatives requiring time spent sometimes out of school hours.

Desired candidate expertise:

  • Approval to teach Music 7-12 and capacity to lead and support a high-quality music programs in the school.
  • Capacity to successfully teach and engage students of different abilities and backgrounds.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively to foster a positive school culture and contribute to whole school priorities.
