The Welcome Experience is a new service supporting essential workers and their families who are thinking of moving or have made the move to a rural location. The service connects you and your family with local people and local resources to help you settle in and feel at home in your new community faster.

Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2025 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application).

Role Description: The successful applicant will liaise and work with a mentor and like-minded teacher at Gol Gol Public School in the development and delivery of relevant science and environmental lessons that link to the curriculum.

Part of the role will be to work with students and staff from Gol Gol and local schools including small schools and schools who are part of the City Country Alliance of Schools (CCAS) on the Gol Gol Immersion Environmental site.

The successful applicant will work in an outdoor education setting and will participate in a Lake Mungo experience and help facilitate City/Country activities that focus on student leadership opportunities. This placement involves working with students in an outdoor environmental setting, with the support and guidance of a second full-time teacher at the school, adjacent to the Murray River in Gol Gol.

The successful applicant will develop leadership skills through involvement in working with the CCAS organisation to help plan student leadership activities, school visits to the Gol Gol Immersion Centre, helping to facilitate student leadership sessions and attending a CCAS staff conference.

Additional Commitments: An openness to new opportunities, a keen interest and enthusiasm in learning more about outdoor education and science.

Desired candidate expertise: A willingness to work in a rural setting, liaising, and developing skills alongside highly motivated staff. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Accommodation details

Accommodation has not been an issue with any placement to date with several options available to the successful applicant. The Gol Gol School has a few parents who work in Real Estate. Accommodation ranges from houses to units, boarding, cabins at Holiday Parks, Teacher Housing. Google Mildura Real Estate Agents for a comprehensive list of Real Estate Agents.

Individual or family accommodation can be organised. Options include one-to-four-bedroom houses, apartments, flats, shared accommodation. I am confident that we could help find suitable accommodation and would be willing to assist in securing appropriate accommodation options. Rental is very reasonable in terms of cost.

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm the allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

Gol Gol Public School is located 6 Kilometres from Mildura (Victoria), adjacent to the Murray River in Western NSW. The school has 190 students.

Mildura has extensive facilities including an airport, fine dining, great shopping, restaurants, hospitals, fitness centres, Libraries, Arts Centre, an established riverfront and recreational activities.

Gol Gol Public School has experienced staff, excellent facilities, and motivated students. Gol Gol is committed to the Rural Experience Program, offering a meaningful rural opportunity. The second Strategic Direction in the school plan has a focus on the further development of the Gol Gol Immersion Centre involving collaboration, partnerships, and learning.

Gol Gol Public School has a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden, an Environmental and Cultural Immersion Centre, a School Band and a supportive school community. We have well-mannered, hard-working students and staff. We have forged strong partnerships with several Metropolitan and rural schools through our City Country Alliance of Schools involvement.
