  • Permanent employees who hold a substantive position as a teacher and meet the eligibility requirements in the Rural Experience Guidelines may apply for either of these placements.
  • Non-permanent employees (those on a temporary engagement / contract and casual employees) who meet the eligibility requirements in the Rural Experience Guidelines may apply for either of these placements.

Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2024 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application)

Placement opportunities are available for teachers looking to work within the broader school community.

Role description: The teaching load of the placement will be negotiated with the successful applicant to include areas of applicant skills, interest and school need. Arrangements could cater for generalist teachers or those with specific preferences, eg, English, PDHPE, science, music and drama, industrial technology.

The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop innovative approaches to learning that address the educational and social aspirations of all students.

Extra-curricular responsibilities may be negotiated.

Desired candidate expertise:

  • Willingness to teach students in years 7-12 (specific stage preferences can be negotiated)
  • Capacity to work collaboratively to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community
  • Knowledge and commitment to professional learning including curriculum reform and student wellbeing
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education policies

Accommodation details

In Coleambally, Teacher Housing may be available to share or for a family. There is limited private rental availability and a caravan park.

In nearby Griffith (approx. 65kms drive) there is private rental availability.

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

Coleambally Central School is a vibrant Kindergarten to Year 12 rural school with approximately 160 students located on Wiradjuri land in the Riverina Region. The school population includes just below 20% students identifying as Aboriginal. Enrolment draws from the townships of Coleambally, a picturesque rural community, Darlington Point alongside the Murrumbidgee River and from a large, surrounding farming area.

The school enjoys an idyllic setting adjacent to the Coleambally business district and is supported by an energetic and creative P&C and a parent community eager to partner with teachers and staff to provide high quality and individualised education.

Professional learning supports our students and is structured and focused to build collaborative teaching practices to create quality learning environments.

Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2024 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application)

Role description: The placement will be tailored dependent on the skillset of the applicant. It could be having their own class, implementing intervention programs, RFF or opportunities to explore and lead whole school programs relating to our school priority areas.

Additional commitments: There are a number of annualised activities which include stage groups and whole of Primary including Harmony Day, Seasonal Celebrations (Easter, Christmas) sport and choir. Development and participation in extra-curricular activities based on interest is welcomed.

  • Approval to teach K-6
  • Capacity to work collaboratively in a team and build positive relationships with all members of the school community.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and delivering high-quality, differentiated teaching and learning programs with an emphasis on student engagement.
  • Knowledge and commitment to professional learning including curriculum reform K-2 and 3-6 and student wellbeing
  • Knowledge of and the ability to implement the Department’s Aboriginal education policy to enhance quality outcomes for all Aboriginal students.
