Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2025 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application).

Role description: A qualified Mathematics teacher to work in 7-12 alongside experienced staff in the Maths faculty. The successful applicant will be encouraged to develop innovative approaches to learning that address the educational and social aspirations of all students.

Alternatively, we would welcome a generalist 7-12 secondary teacher who is keen to work across KLAs. The teaching load of the placement will be negotiated with the successful applicant to include areas of applicant interest and support school need. Extra-curricular responsibilities may be negotiated.

Desired candidate expertise:

  • Willingness to teach students in years 7-12
  • Highly developed organisational and interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education policies

Accommodation details

Teaching Housing (furnished 1 or 2 bedroom flat or 3 bedroom house) may be available as well as private rental properties. Balranald also has a wonderful caravan park, located in a picturesque setting on the Murrumbidgee River

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm the allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

School details

Balranald Central School provides students in K-12 with an engaging, safe and supportive environment that is underpinned by our school values of respect, care, responsibility and personal best. Students attend from the township as well as surrounding towns and farms in NSW and Victoria including Euston and Robinvale. The school caters for 195 students with 25% being Aboriginal and has recently seen strong growth in secondary enrolments.

The closest major service centres are Swan Hill (100km) and Mildura (160km). The community and shire are strong supporters of the school and are experiencing economic stimulus success with enterprises such as tourism, mining, renewable energy and large-scale commercial farming, which provides lots of employment opportunities outside of school. The town has many quality amenities including a hospital, two supermarkets, recreational and sporting clubs. The school enjoys the luxury of an interested and proactive P&C and has partnerships with Sunraysia Solar Farm, Balranald Shire Council, Tronox Holdings and Petaurus Education Group.

Balranald Central School has a number of long-standing staff combined with beginning teachers that work collectively and collaboratively to achieve meaningful student learning goals.
