Placement details

Terms 1 - 4, 2023 (Applicants can request a shorter duration in their application).

Applications are invited from Head Teachers interested in a career opportunity as a Learning Support Leader.

The successful applicant will be committed to working towards school excellence in a K-12 structure with a specific focus on Learning Support.

The teaching load would be at a Head Teacher level and is based on subject area and team-teaching obligations.

Duties include:

  • To work creatively alongside the principal and other executive.
  • Lead Project/Program Based Learning with a small group of students with diverse learning needs in the Multi-Categorical class
  • Leading the inclusion of adjustments for students with special learning needs in programs and classrooms across the school.
  • Leading the writing of support plans relating to student learning across the school.
  • Leading the writing of access requests with the outcome of appropriate funding support for students across the school.
  • Manage student learning support referrals and Learning Support Officer distributions.
  • Coordination & collection of NCCD data.

Accommodation details

Accommodation may be available through Teacher Housing. Dwellings vary from 1 bedroom furnished units to 4-bedroom unfurnished houses depending on the successful applicant’s requirements and family needs.

Please note: Teacher Housing availability can depend upon a variety of factors, including vacancy status and potential priority offers to other staff with full time rural appointments. Teacher Housing Authority (THA) may not be able to confirm allocation of properties until all applications have been received and processed. Applicants are encouraged to discuss property availability directly with THA. Participants of the Rural Experience Program are not eligible for the Housing Rental Subsidy but may rent a property (at market value) through the THA if available.

School details

Balranald Central School is a small K-12, rural school, located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and drawing from surrounding towns and farms in N.S.W and Victoria such as Euston, Robinvale, Homebush, Kyalite and Hell's Gate. The school caters for 180 students with 25% being Aboriginal.

The closest major centres are in Victoria and most services are accessed from these locations. The community and shire are strong supporters of the school and are experiencing economic stimulus success with enterprises such as tourism, mining, renewable energy and large-scale commercial farming.

Balranald Central School has a number of long-standing staff combined with beginning teachers that work collectively and collaboratively to achieve meaningful student learning goals. Some distinctive attributes of the school include a rich well-being program, a strongly supported breakfast club, an Aboriginal youth group, an engaging academic secondary program that supports students to transition to work or further learning. Students enjoy extracurricular activities such as netball, AFL, tennis, golf, fishing, cricket and rowing.
